Week 3 - The Life Cycle

 

This week we talked about different life cycles and got to plant some seeds!



We learned about many different animal cycles like butterflies and mealworms. With a partner, we got to create our life cycle and we chose a turtle. The four stages are egg to hatching to juvenile to adult. We also got to plant some fast seeds and get to see them grow for the next 40 days. When it came to planting the seeds the instructions were clear and it helped that they were also on the board. One thing that confused me at the beginning was how to place dirt into the indicated space without all the dirt falling through it. After some trial and error, my parents and I got it to stay and continued like normal. Overall I am excited to see how much our plants have grown.

    Hi Olga! I love your model of a turtle's life cycle! You did a great job showing how each stage is unique and important in the turtle's development. I also had some confusion about planting the fast plants but we were able to finish it. I'm also excited to see how the plants grow. Good job!

    Your explanation of what we did in class this week was fantastic. Your featured work from class is really creative and does great job at tying in to what you talk about in your blog post which gives insight to our lab. I am excited to see what else you take away and create during this class!

    Hello Olga! Great post! I enjoy seeing your pictures of the classroom work. Your turtle's life cycle is amazing! That is a super clear and easy way to understand the life cycle of a turtle. I also mentioned the plant activity and how excited I am to watch them grow!

    Elementary Science II Week: October 21th - October 25st  What did you do in lab this week? / What was the big question?  The two discussion topics for this week's lab is geologic time and earth viewer. We began by looking at a presidential elections are impacted by a 100 years old coastline. We learned that parts of the south were underwater as a point in history, flowing the blue line. Week 13

   Elementary Science II Week 13: November 18th- November 22th What did you do in the lab this week/ What was the big question:  We started by talking in our groups about the two articles, Couple Inquiry and Sweater, and about how similar and different they are. Both talk about teachers letting go of the control. I think that is something a lot of us are not used to or have never seen. Even as a college student, I am used to being told what to do and study for. To then move to allowing students to take over the lesson can be hard. But both articles make a great point. The sweater article talked about how students naturally lead a lesson if and only need a little bit of guides. The Coupled Inquiry talked about allowing time for freedom but with guidance.  A fun fact that I learned is that Americans are lagging in academics and despise the free education we give.                                                                              Elementary Science II Week: October 14th - October 18st  1. What did you do in lab this week? / What was the big question?  My group's big research question was about the earth's origin. There are so many misconceptions about how the Earth was made, for example, the Earth was formed instantly. Historically people used to believe that the Earth was the center of the world.
